How to Show Image and Link Descriptions on Hover with Helperbird

Learn how to show alt tags on hover as tooltips. Discover image descriptions for better accessibility Support accessibility for everyone.

Link & Image Descriptions shows you hidden information about images and links on a webpage. When you hover your mouse over an image, you will see its alt text (a description of what the image shows). When you hover over a link, you will see where it leads.

This helps you understand what images contain and where links go before clicking them.

Who is This For?

This feature is helpful for:

  • People who want to know where a link leads before clicking
  • Anyone who uses screen readers and wants to check alt text
  • Web developers checking accessibility on pages
  • People with visual impairments who need image descriptions
  • Anyone curious about the hidden information on webpages

Step 1: Open Helperbird

Click the Helperbird icon in your browser toolbar. It looks like a small owl and is usually in the top-right corner of your browser.

This will open the Helperbird menu.

Step 2: Open the All Features Section

Scroll down to the bottom of the Helperbird menu. You will see a section called All Features.

Click the arrow next to All Features to expand it and show all available features.

Look through the list of features until you see Link & Image Descriptions.

It has an image icon with a link symbol next to it.

Step 4: Turn on the Feature

Click the toggle switch next to Link & Image Descriptions to turn it on. The toggle will turn green when it is enabled.

Now hover your mouse over any image or link on the page. A tooltip will appear showing the description or destination.

Tip: This is especially useful when browsing unfamiliar websites. You can see exactly where links lead before clicking them.

Brilliant extension! Have tired it for my daughter and she has come on leaps in school. While there are plenty of free features, the paid ones are only 30 USD a year. Can't recommend this enough.

Huge fan of the zoom feature. It trumps the native zoom in your browser since the zoom level you set actually stays with you no matter what page you go to, which is very helpful and meshes well with the other features the app offers.

I have to admit, I have tried several other similar products which were awful. Helperbird is truly amazing! The font changes, colours, overlays, notes, text to speech and I love the 50 natural languages! 100% worth updating.
