What Helperbird Does and Does Not Do
Helperbird does not simulate color blindness, and it does not correct it. There is no protanopia or deuteranopia filter.
What Helperbird does is change how a page presents information, so that less of it depends on color alone. That is the part that causes the most trouble day to day.
The most useful tool for this is Highlight links. The rest of this page lists the others.
Who is This For?
This is helpful for:
- Anyone who cannot tell link text apart from ordinary text
- People with red-green color vision deficiency, the most common kind
- Anyone who finds low-contrast pages hard to read
- Anyone who wants stronger, clearer colors on a page
Start Here: Highlight Links
Most websites show a link only by making the text a different color. If you cannot see that color difference, the link is invisible.
Highlight links puts a striped bar under every link on the page. The bar is 2 pixels tall and uses four colors: grey, yellow, red and teal. Because it is a shape as well as a color, you can see it whichever colors are hard for you.
To turn it on, open Helperbird, open All Features, and switch on Highlight links.

The Other Tools That Help

Which One Should You Try First?
Try them in this order. Stop when the page works for you.
- Highlight links. This fixes the most common problem, and it changes nothing else on the page.
- Link color. Use this if you would rather links were a color you can see.
- High contrast. Use this if the whole page is hard to read, not only the links.
- Dark Reader with the greyscale slider. Use this if color is a distraction rather than a help.
You can leave all of them on at once. They are separate settings.
