How to Open the PDF Reader in Helperbird

What is the PDF Reader?

The Helperbird PDF Reader opens a PDF in its own tab and puts Helperbird's reading and writing tools around it. You can have the document read aloud, write notes on top of it, draw on it, and save a copy with your changes.

It is free to use, and the PDF stays on your computer. Nothing is uploaded to open a file.

Who is This For?

This is helpful for:

• Students working through a PDF worksheet or reading assignment
• Anyone who finds long documents easier to follow when they are read aloud
• People who need to annotate a PDF but do not have a paid PDF editor
• Anyone marking up a form, a handout or a set of notes

Step 1: Open Helperbird

Click the Helperbird icon in your browser toolbar. It looks like a small owl and is usually in the top-right corner of your browser.

Step 2: Open the All Features Section

Scroll to the bottom of the Helperbird menu and open All Features.

Step 3: Find PDF Reader

Look through the list until you see PDF Reader, then click Open PDF Reader. The reader opens in a new browser tab.

Step 4: Open a PDF

The reader starts empty, with a single Open PDF button in the middle.

Click Open PDF and choose a file from your computer. The document appears with the toolbar above it and page numbers you can click to jump around.

What You Can Do Next

The toolbar across the top holds everything the reader can do:

• Add a text box to type onto the page
• Draw on the page freehand, with shapes, lines and arrows
• Save your annotated PDF with or without your changes
• Text to Speech reads the document aloud. It uses the voice and speed from your text to speech settings.
