What Media Controls Does
Media controls is the Helperbird panel for video. It holds two settings.
Both of them change every video on the page at once. You do not have to open each player and set it yourself.
There are only two controls here, and each one has its own guide.
Who is This For?
This is helpful for:
- Anyone who finds videos too fast to follow
- Anyone who wants more time to read the subtitles
- Anyone who wants to get through a long video faster
- Anyone who needs a page to be quiet
- Anyone startled by video that starts playing on its own
The Two Controls
| Control | What it does | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Playback speed | Sets how fast every video plays, from 10% to 200% of normal speed. | Change video playback speed |
| Video volume | Sets how loud every video is, from 0% to 100%. 0% mutes them. | Mute all videos on a page |
Turn a control on with its toggle. A slider then appears underneath it.
Helperbird remembers what each video was set to before you changed it. When you switch a control off, it puts each video back.
What These Controls Cannot Do
- Video volume cannot go above 100%. It is not a booster. Browsers cap video volume at normal, so there is no headroom above it.
- Video volume sets the volume, it does not stop the video. At 0% a video keeps playing, silently.
- Both controls affect video only. Separate audio players are not video, so they are not changed.
- Neither one changes Helperbird's own reading voice. That has its own volume, covered in text to speech.
Related Guides
- Reading Mode - Strip a page back to its text, media included.
- Reduce motion - Stop animations that make a page hard to read.
- Hide images and GIFs - Remove moving pictures as well as sound.
